Greetings and salutations, faithful readers.  For you, I finally have the conclusion of Team C’s heroic tale of bravery, adventure, and Cheetos.  It is D&D after all; let’s be real.  Well.  I should clarify.  We enjoy these:

A whole hell of a lot.

Like, it’s stupid how much we like them.  ANYWAY, read on, gentle readers, after the break.

When last we left, the group had just stepped through the portal in the once-Red-Knight-now-Lolth temple deep within the Underdark.  They were whipped through space and time, through the timestream that slips in and out of multiple dimensions, and arrived in the city of Sigil.  You might recognize/remember Sigil from old games.  If not, here’s a little refresher of how the city works:

Washington was pissed they built a dimensional city over his monument.

It’s a gigantic ring set atop a spire inbetween worlds.  If you’re unfamiliar with the interdimensional city, think of Sigil as the great intersection of the cosmos.  The infrastructure runs similarly to a normal city; however, its regent is the cruelly indifferent Lady of Pain, a being of far-reaching mystery who disdains the admiration normally attached to her legacy.  She rules Sigil and only demands the occasional gift of self-inflicted pain from the city’s inhabitants.  Most story arcs paint her as the great traffic director of the cosmos, deciding who gets to go where and when.  Simply put, if you get to Sigil, you’re not leaving Sigil without the Lady of Pain’s permission.  Our heroes arrived in the ringed city after fleeing the tomb beneath Erelhei-Cinlu and immediately found themselves in the Oubliette, a room of forgotten space.  They had been there before, however; they had fought individuals claiming to be from another realm, one that had gone dark at the hand of a common enemy, the hooded horror known only as “Jerohm” (more on that later…).  After subduing their latest visitor, the Lady of Pain demanded an audience with the travelers in 24 hours.  They had a day to burn in Sigil.  Some drank ale.  Some shopped for curios and relics.  And some… well let’s just say there was an interesting collaboration between a certain tiefling party member and a female shifter bartender.  Regardless, the next day, the group made its way to the Lady of Pain’s audience chamber.

There, the esoteric and enigmatic leader made each suffer to behold her vastly eerie visage.  She showed them two paths: 1) a small, modest village within their world; and 2) the Pyramid of Shadows.  She informed The Dark Child that his progression with the group ended here; she had important things for him to see in the modest village.  She asked him to choose one companion to accompany him on his journey.  Ryeleth stepped forward and volunteered for the mission.  They were then transported to a realm of great confusion: it felt familiar yet resounded with confusion.  After waking up in the basement of a tavern and then filling up on spirits and warmth from within, Ryeleth and Thom enjoyed a few moments of relaxation.  However, several hours into their revelry, an excited new father burst into the tavern and ordered drinks for the room.  Upon being asked what he was going to name his newborn twins, the father responded, “Jahvod and Jerohm.”  They had gone back in time to where all the troubles literally began.

Batrahko

Meanwhile, the rest of the group traveled to The Pyramid of Shadows, an inter-dimensional structure that, according to my story arc, contains vaults — sealed, private, and guarded rooms — that belong to the gods themselves.  Within, the gods traditionally have kept important items or information because of the dimensional phasing ability of the pyramid.  The group traveled to a deep jungle, where they met a young Goliath sleeping by a tree.  He had journeyed there on a spirit quest in search of knowledge of his particular ancestral guardians.  He introduced himself as Batrahko and confessed he had not yet discovered a way into the pyramid.  The group, with its new companion, was able to decipher the pyramid’s entry puzzle while avoiding some thieves and entered the great structure.  Within, the group has encountered the gamut of  troubles, including foulspawn, devils, demons, zombies, arboreals, and a particularly curious band of sahaugin that they have now kept in their handy haversack.  They near the zenith of the pyramid, where they will battle the evil Karavakos, who has set much of the world’s troubles into motion.

And that about catches us up!  I would like to give a particularly loud shout-out to this group who selflessly used their prized Raise Dead ritual on an NPC with whom they formed a connection.  One of the aforementioned thieves outside of the pyramid somehow joined them within and fought with them through coercion from the group.  He fell early in one of the battles, but the group decided to raise him and see where his story would go.  He has held his own — a rogue named Alain — and now has forged a unique path in the overall story!  So, here he is, as he deserves a picture as well:

Alain, the rogue

For next week, I’ll have a write-up about the Monday group, and then it’s back to general D&D and RPG posts.  Expect some other games and modules discussed as well as the future of table-top gaming right here from pixelatedgeek!
